Chittenden County and the Greater Burlington Area

Chittenden County is a highly desirable area to live in Vermont. It is within 30 minutes of Burlington and Lake Champlain, and has some of the best school districts in Vermont. The greater Burlington Area is considered the immediate surrounding towns of South Burlington, Winooski, Colchester, and Essex. For the most part these towns have a suburban feel, with walk-able neighborhoods and access to public transportation. There are abundant shopping and dining options, and these towns each have their own school district and high school. The further you travel outside of Burlington, the population density decreases and the towns become more rural where farming is more prevalent. Towns like Jericho, Richmond, Hinesburg, and Shelburne have their own village centers with smaller local grocery stores, locally owned shops, and fewer dining options. These towns have a very friendly tight-knit community feel to them and are becoming more developed as Burlington sprawls. There are also very rural areas of Chittenden County as well, where its easier to find a home with privacy, extensive acreage, and immediate access to wilderness. These towns line the outer skirts of Chittenden County and have gorgeous views of the surrounding mountain ranges, Mount Mansfield, and Camels Hump. If you want privacy and vast green space out your window, the towns of Westford, Underhill, Bolton, Huntington, and Charlotte are where to look.
